Donges SteelTec GmbH wins contract for station of the new Passenger Transport System (PTS) at Frankfurt Airport

Donges SteelTec GmbH wins contract for station of the new Passenger Transport System (PTS) at Frankfurt Airport

Darmstadt, December 2020 Despite the fact that air traffic is currently very limited due to the worldwide pandemic, Frankfurt Airport does not stand still. With the construction of the new Terminal 3 by the operating company Fraport, the PTS must also be expanded. Donges SteelTec has now been awarded the contract for the new PTS station in the area of the Terminal 1 bus station.

The aim of the construction measures surrounding the additional PTS is to connect the new Terminal 3 in the south area to the existing passenger facilities and the regional and long-distance train station in the north. The new passenger transport system is to be implemented independently of the existing one (so far only between Terminal 1 A/B and Terminal 2).

Donges SteelTec will erect the steel structure for the new PTS station at Terminal 1. It is a very demanding structure with conical round columns and cast nodes. Due to the limited space available in the Terminal 1 area, site logistics will also play a major role. The proximity of the production facility in Darmstadt is an advantage. Construction of this section is scheduled to start in the first half of 2021 and is expected to take under two years.

“We are very proud that we can book this tender for us, which is practically on our doorstep. In this project we can perfectly combine our know-how in steel structural engineering and bridge construction”, says Peter Brechtelsbauer CEO of Donges SteelTec GmbH/CEO of the Donges Group.
