Mutares acts as an international investor that actively supports its portfolio companies in defining and implementing comprehensive turnaround and optimization programs.
In all our decisions, we not only focus on the organic growth and sustainable success of our portfolio companies. We also pay attention to the compliance with and implementation of ecological, social and corporate values as well as standards.
At Mutares SE & Co. KGaA, acting responsibly is anchored within the corporate values. Sustainability in actual practice goes beyond environmentally friendly measures to also cover social aspects as well as principles of good corporate governance.
Our guiding principles are the three main areas of sustainable responsibility of a company: Environmental, Social and Governance.
Sustainability plays a fundamental role at Mutares. We signed the UN Global Compact in 2021 and are committed to respecting and implementing the ten sustainable principles set out therein. We want to promote a sustainable development worldwide.
With the aim of minimizing our environmental impact, we implement continuous measures to reduce our CO2-footprint. Within out business context the generation of CO2-emissions is sometimes unavoidable. This is why, since 2019, we offset remaining emissions from business travel via climate protection projects through atmosfair.

atmosfair operates its projects according to the rules of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) anchored in the Kyoto Protocol and additionally the “Gold Standard” established by international environmental organizations.
Independent organizations approved by the United Nations (e.g. TÜV) verify that these projects actually reduce CO2-emissions.
At our subsidiaries, we also pay attention to the implementation of environmentally friendly behavior within the production processes. Approx. 74% of our portfolio companies are certified to ISO 14001:2015 (environmental management system) (as of December 31, 2021).
Mutares sets targets and policies related to the ESG issues not only at the Holding level, but also for each portfolio company. To this end, Mutares implements defined processes in its organization and conducts an “ESG Portfolio Review” to determine where each portfolio company stands in terms of ESG.
SFC Solutions works closely with OEMs to develop new technologies with a special focus on weight and component size reduction to meet the growing requirements for BEV (Battery Electric Vehicles) and HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicles).
For the Donges Group, safety in the workplace is paramount, thus in 2019, Kalzip production set a new record with 1,000 accident-free days. The external certification for occupational safety OHSAS 18001 confirms that the well-being of Kalzip’s own employees is treated with the highest priority.
The keeeper Group has developed a resource-friendly “keeeper eco line” that is made of 100% recycled plastic. The keeeper eco line is not only sustainably produced, but also sustainably disposed of and recycled after approximately 10 years. keeeper received the German government’s “Blue Angel” eco-label for the use of environmentally friendly recycled plastics and the creation of incentives for sustain- able consumption.
Elastomer Solutions is striving for the full integration of quality, environmental and safety system. The introduction of a Code of Ethics and Business Conduct establishes principles and values for employees.
PrimoTECS focuses on e-mobility to develop technologies for power transmission in electric vehicles and received the awards for a certified quality management (IATF 16949) and audited environmental management system (ISO 14001).
Balcke-Dürr Group has achieved a reduction in energy consumption through an extensive LED retrofit program and a renewal of the entire heating and hot water supply in the production plant.
iinovis was able to minimize the consumption of natural resources in 2020 through more efficient use of energy and materials, thus over 60% of purchased energy came from green energy.
