In all our decisions, we focus not only on the organic growth and long-term success of our portfolio companies.

At Mutares SE & Co. KGaA, acting responsibly is anchored within the corporate values. Sustainability in actual practice goes beyond environmentally friendly measures to also cover social aspects as well as principles of good corporate governance.

Sustainability plays a fundamental role at Mutares. In 2021, we signed the UN Global Compact and committed ourselves to respecting and implementing the ten sustainable principles set out therein and to promoting sustainable development worldwide.

Human rights

Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights within their sphere of influence.

Labor standards

Businesses should uphold freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining.
Businesses should uphold the elimination of all forms of forced labor.
Businesses should uphold the effective abolition of child labor.

Environment

Companies should follow the precautionary principle when dealing with environmental issues.
Companies should take initiatives to promote greater environmental awareness.
Companies should accelerate the development and dissemination of environmentally friendly technologies.

Companies should oppose all forms of corruption, including extortion and bribery.

Environmental

Mit dem Ziel, unsere Umweltbelastung zu minimieren, setzen wir kontinuierliche Maßnahmen zur Reduzierung unseres CO2-Fußabdrucks. In unserem Geschäftskontext ist die Erzeugung von CO2-Emissionen manchmal unvermeidbar. Deshalb kompensieren wir seit 2019 verbleibende Emissionen aus Geschäftsreisen über Klimaschutzprojekte durch unabhängige Anbieter.

Our portfolio companies are committed to optimizing production processes with a particular focus on environmental compatibility. We actively promote the introduction of internationally recognized environmental and energy management systems, such as ISO 14001 and ISO 50001, in all of our portfolio companies.

We also ensure that our subsidiaries implement environmentally friendly practices in their production processes.

Social

Our success is based on the expertise and professionalism of our dedicated employees. That is why we at Mutares attach particular importance to the health and safety of our employees. Mutares is guided by the four principles of the United Nations Global Compact’s labor standards. Compliance with occupational safety and health protection is reinforced by the introduction of a “zero accident” safety culture.

Mutares is aware of its social responsibility. We consider exemplifying and initiating participation in humanitarianism to be essential cornerstones of our social value system. Among other things, Mutares supports the selfless and important work of numerous volunteers at the Munich Children’s Hospice. As a company that has always had deep ties to the city of Munich and its people, we sponsor a family. In this way, we are also sending a signal of humanity that goes far beyond the financial aspect of our commitment.

Governance

Mutares is committed to acting with integrity and in compliance with nationally and internationally recognized standards, assumes corporate responsibility, and pays attention to the impact of its business activities. Accordingly, we have established a compliance system with a code of conduct for all relevant areas. Responsible, ethical, and honest behavior is expected from all employees at all levels. This expectation also applies to third parties, such as business partners and suppliers, who contribute to the good image of our company. Our expectations of third parties are reflected in our code of conduct for suppliers and business partners.

There are individual guidelines for anti-corruption, capital market compliance, terrorist financing and money laundering, and data protection, among other things.

The policy management software we have implemented ensures that employees have access to the applicable policies at the right time.

In addition, our whistleblower portal (the “Mutares Integrity Line”) offers the opportunity to anonymously report potential compliance violations and suspected human rights and environmental violations. Our compliance department professionally and independently investigates every report of potential misconduct by our employees or suspected human rights and environmental violations. This communication channel is available not only to Mutares employees, but also to third parties.
